Grade 3 English Language Syllabus
Our third grade English syllabus is based on learning experiences designed in line with the ‘CEFR’ (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)- ‘Common European Framework A1 Language Descriptor’ and ‘GSE’ (Global Scale of English) A1 Language Descriptor language skills and their sub-skills.
While designing target language activities,we ensure that the learning engagements are in line with the themes of the “PYP- Primary Years Program” and the principles of conceptual and inquiry-based learning,and will enable students to transfer their learning experiences to different situations by making daily life connections while studying the universal, big idea.
Our syllabus is based on an anthology, and this gives equal weight to four language skills, which are ‘Listening’, ‘Spoken Interaction’, ‘Spoken Production’, ‘Reading’, and ‘Writing’.
Various language games, songs, arts and crafts activities, drama, pair and group work, and station activities through Web 2.0 applications make English lessons enjoyable and are indispensable elements of the program that contribute to students taking their learning responsibilities.
In line with the principles of “Differentiated Instruction-Differentiated Learning” in course designs, course contents are differentiated according to students’ interests and language competencies, and students’ language acquisition/learning processes are supported.
Our Reading and Writing program is based on authentic reading books written for native English speakers in a digital library. Digital libraries designed especially for native English speakers contribute to the language development of Turkish student profile learning English as a foreign language by providing rich language input. This program also aims to help students acquire the habit of independent reading and integrate this habit into their lives.
Our writing program includes samples in which different types of literary texts are taught in the target language through our students’ ‘Writing Portfolios’. Especially in line with the principles of ‘Process Writing’, students have the opportunity to examine the writing process and the characteristics of stories and non-fiction texts.
Our English syllabus prepares our students for the “Cambridge English Language Assessment – Cambridge English Movers at A1 Level” international exam. Students’ language development is also evaluated through different formative assessment tools.
